Yancey Entertainment is a full-time, Louisville, Kentucky based mobile disc jockey entertainment and event direction service. Since 1978 we have performed competently as music and entertainment hosts in the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana areas at wedding receptions, corporate, school, church and private events and many other special occasions. Although we specialize in wedding entertainment, which represents 85% of our business, we also provide professional sound reinforcement services (indoors and outdoors) and technical support for wedding ceremonies, live band and choral performances. ABOUT THE OWNER
I, Marshall C. Yancey, am a native of Oxford, North Carolina and a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering Technology. I have held corporate positions with General Motors Buick Motor Division in Flint, Michigan for two years and then relocated to Louisville in May of 1974 where I have held positions with General Electric (Refrigeration Division) through March of 1990.
I have always had an appreciation for many different styles of music, an extensive music library and a strong interest in audiophile stereo equipment. My passion for music and special talent for music programming were noticed and encouraged by many in the early 70's when I was repeatedly asked to be the DJ at small parties. This passion for entertaining and unrelenting entrepreneurial aspirations eventually led to the founding of Yancey Entertainment Service during the summer of 1978. I operated successfully as a single system performer and later expanded as a multi-system company on a part-time basis while employed at General Electric for almost 12 years until 1990. My employment at GE Company was terminated due to corporate downsizing. A confirmed reputation, a solid clientele base and increasing demands gave me the confidence to take a leap of faith to pursue self-employment full-time.
Presently I am proud and fortunate to own and operate a successful and thriving entertainment and sound reinforcement business that is highly respected. This was not achieved by chance. I have never compromised quality and believe that integrity, perseverance and hard work are elements of success. It has been confirmed that Yancey Entertainment Service has enjoyed a superb reputation as a DJ service of choice largely influenced by my leadership, unique style and signature "smooth" demeanor and highly desired "Barry White" type vocal traits.
Besides music, I enjoy custom and vintage cars, auto drag racing, reading technical magazines, basketball, socializing and singing. Since 1986, I have been the director of the audio visual ministry at First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown. I feel especially blessed to have a profession that is truly my passion. It is also quite gratifying to have had so many opportunities to develope great relationships during my career and to have genuine respect from my colleagues.

PRICE AND SELECTING AN ENTERTAINER
The mobile DJ industry has evolved significantly over the past twenty years as a viable business yielding more full-time professionals than ever before. Just as the DJ profession has become more sophisticated, our clients require and/or expect more today than "just music". Some top DJs now perform roles as salesperson, event planner, coordinator, master of ceremonies, music programmer, party motivator, sound and lighting technician, multimedia operator, trainer, manager, etc. Likewise, many full-time/multi-system DJ company rates have increased proportionately approaching the rates of other mainstream professions. These rates are not unjustly inflated, but necessary to maintain the operations of the business and to provide a livable income for the owner.
While it may be attractive to shop for a DJ by price, it is not a wise approach as all DJ services are not equal. Price alone should not be the definitive factor in this decision. There are many other more revealing questions that can be asked than "how much do you charge?" to determine if a prospective MC/DJ can deliver your expectations. The lowest priced DJ is rarely the best value, but a higher priced DJ is not necessarily the right fit for you or your event either. There are distinguishing traits such as style, personality and skills of the DJ which can make a major difference. You should really "get to know" the DJ when making such a crucial decision. The DJ sets the tone of your event and holds the power to significantly influence the success or failure of your best plans.
The rates that are charged by most DJ services are generally based on several factors such as: years of experience, part-time or full-time operation, business overhead, unique skills and talents, personnel assignment per event, equipment and music library investments, reputation and popularity. Most often DJs that are full-time, most experienced, with polished skills and a proven reputation, offering higher quality services will charge higher rates than novice or intermediate level DJs. It is not a good idea to chance ruining your plans by trying to save a few dollars on a discount DJ. When you consider the total cost of most events, (typically wedding receptions) the average 5% to 8% that is usually spent on entertainment, is a small investment to insure success.
DJ rates in the Louisville market can range from $400 to $1500 for 4 hours of performance. This disparity in rates exists due to the varing factors aforementioned in this section. Our rates also fit within this range because we provide music and entertainment for many different occasions - from a simple private party of 50 in a small venue on a Friday night requiring only a small sound system - to a highly involved gala event in a grand ballroom for 500 guests on a prime Saturday night requiring our deluxe high-powered sound system.
We do not list specific prices for our services on this site. Before we can quote our best price for your engagement, we must be informed of all the details such as when, where and what you want and need. The following factors must be taken into consideration: what type of event, day of the week, time of the year, number of hours required, the venue and it's location, amount of equipment required, complexity of setup, how much coordination and interaction will be required, number of entertainers required and the MC/DJ skill level needed for the event.

CORPORATE EVENTS
Yancey Entertainment has also successfully provided entertainment and event coordination for a variety of corporate events. Our team of fun and client focused DJs will motivate and entertain your employees and guests at any type of celebration with great music, group participation dances, party props, games and/or with optional karaoke sing-a-long. Your DJ will assist in coordinating all of the activities as well as act as your Master of Ceremonies for your casual or formal event.
